Cooking Vegetable Oil Releases Toxic Chemicals Linked To Cancer
Vegetable oil such as canola and sunflower oil may not be as good for you as they tell you. Find out why cooking vegetable oil may increase your risk of cancer.
What oil do you cook with? New study suggests it's a question that shouldn't just be on the lips of foodies, but also those interested in reducing their risk of cancer. 

According to leading scientists who are now recommending food be fried in olive oilcoconut oilbutter or even lard,
cooking with vegetable oils releases toxic chemicals linked to cancer and other diseases.

The results of a series of experiments threaten to turn on its head official advice that oils rich in polyunsaturated fats - such as corn oil and sunflower oil - are better for the health than the saturated fats in animal products and coconut oil.

Scientists found that heating up vegetable oils led to the release of high concentrations of chemicals called aldehydes, which have been linked to illnesses including cancer, heart disease and dementia.

Martin Grootveld, a professor of bioanalytical chemistry and chemical pathology, said that his research showed "a typical meal of fish and chips", fried in vegetable oil, contained as much as 100 to 200 times more toxic aldehydes than the safe daily limit set by the World Health Organisation.

In contrast, heating up butter, olive oil and lard in tests produced much lower levels of aldehydes. Coconut oil produced the lowest levels of the harmful chemicals.

Concerns over toxic chemicals in heated oils are backed up by separate research from an Oxford professor, who claims that the fatty acids in vegetable oils are contributing to other health problems.

Professor John Stein, Oxford's emeritus professor of neuroscience, said that partly as a result of corn and sunflower oils, "the human brain is changing in a way that is as serious as climate change threatens to be".

Because vegetable oils are rich in omega 6 acids, they are contributing to a reduction in critical omega 3 fatty acids in the brain by replacing them, he believes.

"If you eat too much corn oil or sunflower oil, the brain is absorbing too much omega 6, and that effectively forces out omega 3," said Professor Stein. "I believe the lack of omega 3 is a powerful contributory factor to such problems as increasing mental health issues and other problems such as dyslexia." He said sunflower oil and corn oil were now banished from his own kitchen, replaced by olive oil and butter.
NHS advice is to replace "foods high in saturated fat with lower-fat versions" and warns against frying food in butter or lard, recommending instead corn oil, sunflower oil and rapeseed oil. Saturated fats raise cholesterol levels, increasing the risk of heart disease.

But Professor Grootveld, of De Montfort University in Leicester, who carried out a series of experiments, said: "For decades, the authorities have been warning us how bad butter and lard was. But we have found butter is very, very good for frying purposes and so is lard.

"People have been telling us how healthy polyunsaturates are in corn oil and sunflower oil. But when you start messing around with them, subjecting them to high amounts of energy in the frying pan or the oven, they undergo a complex series of chemical reactions which results in the accumulation of large amounts of toxic compounds."

The findings are contained in research papers. Professor Grootveld's team measured levels of "aldehydic lipid oxidation products" (LOPs), produced when oils were heated to varying temperatures. The tests suggested coconut oil produces the lowest levels of aldehydes, and three times more aldehydes were produced when heating corn oil and sunflower oil than butter.

The team concluded in one paper last year: "The most obvious solution to the generation of LOPs in culinary oils during frying is to avoid consuming foods fried in PUFA [polyunsaturated fatty acid]-rich oils as much as possible."

Professor Grootveld said: "This major problem has received scant or limited attention from the food industry and health researchers." Evidence of high levels of toxicity from heating oils has been available for many years, he said.

Health concerns linked to the toxic by-products include heart disease; cancer; "malformations" during pregnancy; inflammation; risk of ulcers and a rise in blood pressure.

He said the oils when "completely pure [and] authentic ... offer no threats to human health" but that "LOPs arising from the frequent and common use of polyunsaturated fats" for frying "certainly do so".

Public Health England says saturated fats, including butter and coconut oil "can be eaten occasionally in small amounts as part of a healthy balanced diet".

Ingredients needed:

– 200 grams of peeled and finely chopped ginger

– 450 ml of filtrated water

– 225 grams of sugar

Place the filtered water in pot and place the pot on fire in order for the water to boil. Once the water starts boiling add the ginger. Reduce the heat and cook for another 5 minutes. Then leave the mixture to stand still for 20 minutes. Strain the liquid from the ginger. Prepare the syrup in a separate bowl: dissolve the sugar with 1 cup of the filtrated and boiled water. Mix half a cup of ginger juice with 1/3 of a cup of syrup and half a cup of mineral water. Add a little organic honey and lime juice. Garnish the glass with lemon slices.

October Is Breast Cancer





The best way to stop this disease is awareness and the first step to stop it is prevention. Our environment plays a big part when it comes to illness, so we need to look at it and educate our minds for change.



For example seven months ago I bought Heckle my turtle from this pet store in Chapala, Mexico. The attendant told me that Heckle will only last up to five months and gave me this little bowl for his living quarters. Certainly, these turtles last longer; so I did some research and they will live up to seventy-five years . It’s the environment ~ where they live and how they live that makes a big difference. In small area’s they do not get enough exercise and it creates stress which causes short term life. Its all about quality of life! I am going to prove that my turtle will last much longer with the bigger tank and love. I put a little dish in the tank with lettuce, this was intended for him to eat; however every night when Dan and I turn off his overhead light for the tank he crawls inside and pulls the lettuce over him. This is much like we do when we sleep.



Our life is much like Heckle’s , our environment such as the foods we eat, the water we drink, products we use, the area we live in ~ chemicals in the air, lack of exercise and issues that causes stress.



We can not change the outside surroundings of our homes and lives, but we can change what we do within them.



So, knowledge is power and the first prevention is to educate ourselves in that direction. Not all the time does donating money help the cause. Why do we need that to create a change and promote prevention ? Its free to read and search the internet.

DAN AND MY ADVENTURES WHILE MANAGING CANCER
The shock of cancer came into our lives as early as December 2010.  It was the unthinkable, but Dan and I were not going to take this lightly.  We started to research and came across this program that was directed from all over the world.  The program was in Mexico in an international hospital.  So we went for it, this meant no surgery, chemo nor radiation, but it meant going to another country.  I did not even speak Spanish!!  But that did not matter, just knowing that I would not have to go through chemo ~ I was good.
As I look back and look over the video’s that I took, I realize how lucky we are, for both of us went through this treatment and are cancer free at this time.  I have learned how to manage cancer while enjoying life.
I have so much to be thankful for, while being on this ride, we have been enjoying the company of our friends.  From Washington to California ~ New York to the Carolina’s ~ even Maine.  I would like to thank all for sharing this time with us.  I have reflected this time through movies and sharing with the world that we can have a change of lifestyle and still be able to enjoy life without side effects and pain.
The best way to describe what I have learned is Research and that Knowledge is Power.
Through these video’s that I am sharing I hope this can change the future of cancer and that others will learn and open their minds to other options that do not have every lasting side effects.
Through my change of lifestyle Dan and I moved to Mexico.  So I have created movies of How Safe Is Mexico.  I have met fabulous people from all over here in this area of Mexico ~ Lake Chapala.  Through the movies and my blog, I am hoping to change the thinking of Mexico being scary to visit.  Much like the states there are good areas and bad.
I will continue sharing my life and experiences with all.   
It’s impossible, said pride.
It’s risky, said experience.
It’s pointless said reason.
Give it a try, whispered the heart.
You deserve to follow your heart and choose your own journey, but first we need to explore the unknown.

I AM NOT DONE LAUGHING



I am still here after managing my cancer for five years. There is a purpose, something that I has grown as my passion. I am not done smiling or laughing for I have a lot of work ahead of me. What I know now has made me a better person and wiser ~ KNOWLEDGE IS POWER. This statement is so true because this is what has pulled me through and healed me. Perhaps, if I listened to my surgeon five years ago, “IT IS WHAT IT IS” I might not be writing this piece.

Almost a month ago I started a petition http://www.thepetitionsite.com/552/608/740/stand-up-to-cancer/, which is so dear to me, for this is the type of treatment that turned my live around without side effects. I am tired of seeing and hearing sad stories of how one suffers and all the side effects that go into chemo and radiation. We need to open our eyes and minds to see that there are other options out there in this wide world of ours. With the modern equipment such as the internet we can see beyond our little corner.


Let’s change the way we treat people, lets not use Russian Roulette and forget that we all have a choice on our quality of life and stand up to our government and have insurance companies pay for other options other than surgery, chemo or radiation.

I have written a book http://121586.wix.com/-myjourney. The purpose ~ I wanted people to learn that in order to cure cancer one has to change their lifestyle. The first step is prevention and finding the core of how it happened in the first place. The book is an easy read and provides a lot of information, please check it out.

5 Flowers to Plant for Natural Pest Control

There’s a very beautiful thing about Mother Nature that happens when we don’t stuff her with too much gunk: Plants grow and animals live in harmony. Yes, it sounds like a children’s book written in the 1970s, but it’s also a notion that many an organic gardener are getting wise to these days.
Companion planting, a practice used by organic and biodynamic gardeners, is the term given when one plants certain types of plants near each other because they are mutually beneficial. In the case of growing food in a garden plot, there are a number of flowers you can plant for natural pest control. Toss out the pesticides (or wait, maybe you should contact the EPA to find out how to properly dispose of that toxic waste) and instead plant some attractive and aromatic flowers. Ah, that’s biodynamic gardening for you.

Borage
What it is: Commonly grown and used for culinary purposes in Britain, borage is an herb still not well known in America. This annual produces star-shaped flowers and is wonderful used in herbal teas, tinctures and leafy green recipes.
What it’s good for: Borage deters hornworms and cabbage worms and can help all plants increase their disease resistance.

Chrysanthemums
What it is: These beautiful flowers are quite common in flower arrangements, as they come in a wide spectrum of colors.
What it’s good for Chrysanthemums contain a chemical called pyrethin that’s toxic to insects but safe for human and animal consumption. Aside from planting these colorful flowers around your garden bed, you can also make a tea from the flowers and use it on root nematodes and to repel Japanese beetles.

Clover
What it is: This common soil cover grows as grass does, providing a thin, cohesive layer of green over the soil. There are over 300 varieties of clover to choose from, but the most popular is marked by small green clovers with tiny pink flowers.
What it’s good for: Clover has been known to ward off pests completely when used as ground cover in garden beds. Plant it around cabbage to prevent cabbageworm and aphids from taking hold.

Lavender
What it is: Known for its delicate, violet leaves and pleasing aroma, lavender is used in everything from potpourri to tea and baked goods to frosting.
What it’s good for: Lavender not only repels pests in your garden, it also smells (and looks) heavenly. It’s used to repel most insects you’d want to keep out of the garden, particularly fleas, moths and mosquitoes.

Marigolds
What it is: Marigolds are a popular garden flower as they are cheap to obtain and contain vibrant orange hues.

What it’s good for: Plant the scented varieties of marigolds to deter pests. The French Marigold variety is recommended for keeping whiteflies away from tomatoes, and they protect the health of the soil under the plants.

Picture me sitting in front of you reading this information to you.  We are not rag dolls and too often we hear someone dying of cancer instead of hearing how we can prevent this disease from happening or at least cut it in half.  We live in a fast pace world and so many of us believe what we hear and also use what’s on the market because we do not think that our society will harm us.  Wait, I was one of these people and know based on experience how this works.

 

We need to educate ourselves on the main goal and that is to prevent cancer.  Knowledge if used is power ~ but because we all live in such a quick moving pace there never seems to be enough time to think or to research. I decided to write this for anyone that cares to do something about it.  My hope is that we all can spread the knowledge and live a healthier lifestyle. 

 

I know this first hand for I had cancer and decided to do something outside the rim of the conventional treatments.  I was told by a highly educated doctor that the first thing that we need to understand is that we can’t change our environment on our own, but we can start to change it in our homes.  So one way is to go all organic.  This just isn’t our foods but also, the products that we use every day. So many items are modified or have chemicals in them that change our body chemistry which can lead to getting cancer.  Another important fact is since we live in a world of hurry with the attempt to get things done like yesterday; our stress levels are high.  We need to meditate and relax so that our bodies do not continue to extract the chemical that can increase the likelihood of getting cancer.  To help in combatting stress so as to cut off this chemical, enjoy a form of exercise.  This could be fun, like take up dancing, walking, or even start playing in a group sport.  Yes, I am saying it.  It’s a known fact that prayer can also help your physical outcome of health.

Prevention is the key.  However; our DNA plays a great role in our behavior and attitude on how we live.  Through all the above findings one can change the DNA and you can stay healthier.

 

Now, if you or someone you know has cancer there are options out there.  This is the age of communication and it is a big world, look and see what other countries are doing to manage cancer other than cut, poison and burn.  I have studied options for over four years since I was diagnosed with breast cancer.  Check out my option www.thejourneytogoodhealth.com  for I have learned that managing cancer is a scientific approach and it’s your blueprint that needs to be changed. 

 

My goal is to make it FDA approved so insurance companies will pay for this type of treatment, because I believe that we should have options that can be done without breaking our bank account.  I hear from people all the time two responses to what I am writing.  First, I wish I can do what you did, but I do not have the money or if your option would be FDA approved the doctors and the outpatient cancer clinics will go out of business.  I have answers to these remarks.

 

First, cancer is a money making business, even if we have insurance it does not pay for all the treatments.  At some point it max’s out and you have to pay something out of your own pocket.  So you have to decide what is worth more, your life or the money you put into your treatment. 

 

Second, I feel that the new age will continue to advance and doctors and the medical industry will grow financially with this option.  Instead of all these chemo clinics, we can have stem cell banks, hyperthermia clinics, ozone clinics.  We need to understand that cancer cells will die with heat and oxygen.  With the new age we need to create new ideas and techniques to use to treat this disease with these two findings. 

 

I am not saying that people should not totally stop chemo treatments, if that is truly what they believe will cure them.  I am merely suggesting that we have more than one option on the table that our insurance companies will pay for.  For example, mine would pay for the hospital stay in the states for surgery and then after chemo and radiation, but would not cover the hospital stay in Mexico even though it was ten times cheaper.  I did not expect them to cover the non FDA approved treatments, but the hospital stay!!  The fact is that it was cheaper than having to go through the conventional way and the suffering.  It’s funny, but they paid after the fact the MRI’s, CT Scans and lab work that showed the cancer leaving my body.

 

Please stand up with me and change the thinking of our health industry and help me convince our politicians and physicians that there is a better way to fight cancer without side effects and have immune therapy a type of treatment available to all with the insurance paying even some of it.  We need to not be treated like rag dolls but as human beings.   Let’s share this so that others can start to educate themselves and begin to manage a healthier lifestyle.

If you know me, I like to experiment in making things and baking is no different.  Dan wanted some oatmeal this morning, but I didn’t want just oatmeal.  So why not oatmeal pancakes and not just oatmeal but add other healthy ingredients also to make it my own masterpiece.  Cooking can be so much fun and the finish product just melts in your mouth.

This is healthier for everyone because while our drinking water is generally pasteurized before it goes into the water supply, it does not catch everything, and some of that water is put back into the atmosphere and then rained back down on us. Eliminating the prevalence of these chemicals will make our entire environment even healthier.

Organic farmers are on the cutting edge of science as they are focused on finding ways to produce quality foods without the use of the chemicals that are harmful to our health, and the health of the planet. These farmers have used innovative techniques to replace the chemicals that can be so damaging, and do their research using their own funding at their own farms.
We have learned a great deal about the harmful qualities of regular farming through this research. The entire point of the research is to find ways to produce food that is as high quality as food grown on a regular farm without the use of chemicals. This is better for the environment, for people individually, and for the farmers as well.

A major problem in environmental science is that we are gradually losing entire species of food. In cooking to help create our masterpiece, we use herbs to spice up and add favor to our dish.  However herbs also act as a healing source too.  As days go on I will be posting different herbs and what they can do for your body.  Depending on what you use the favor of the dish will change.  So educate yourself on the different types as you use them for cooking.

 

In general use, herbs are any plants used for food, flavoring, medicine, or perfume. Culinary use typically distinguishes herbs as referring to the leafy green parts of a plant (either fresh or dried), from a "spice", a product from another part of the plant (usually dried), including seeds, berries, bark, roots and fruits.

In botanical English the word "herb" is also used as a synonym of "herbaceous plant".

Herbs have a variety of uses including culinary, medicinal, and in some cases spiritual usage. General usage of the term "herb" differs between culinary herbs and medicinal herbs. In medicinal or spiritual use any of the parts of the plant might be considered "herbs", including leaves, roots, flowers, seeds, resin, root bark, inner bark (and cambium), berries and sometimes the pericarp or other portions of the plant.
